Accused NUST employees granted four-day remand

The court of a civil judge in Islamabad on Thursday granted a four-day physical remand to four officials of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) for their alleged involvement in stealing entry test papers for the pre-engineering department.
Sabzi Mandi Police produced the accused before the court of Judicial Magistrate Naeem Shoukat and sought an order for the physical remand of the accused. The judge accepted the police’s plea and handed the accused men over to the police on a four day physical remand. He further directed the police to produce the accused to court on August 15.
The NUST registrar had lodged an FIR against eight officials of the institution on charges of stealing the pre-engineering department entry tests and then selling them for thousands of rupees. The pre-engineering entry test was held on July 17, but was later declared null and void when the registrar learnt that the paper had been leaked.
Police revealed that eight persons had been named in the FIR, four of which had been arrested. Police officials also said that during the primary investigation the accused men- all of whom were low-grade employees- had confessed to stealing and selling the question papers.
