The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) has introduced two new disciplines – mechatronics engineering and BS biosciences. According to a SZABIST press release issued on Wednesday, the institute’s top priority is to provide cutting-edge and market-relevant education.
It was pointed out that SZABIST has been a pioneer in launching and exploring new programmes to provide quality education and enable students to strive for excellence. SZABIST was described as one of the few dedicated institutes engaged and committed to imparting quality education in information technology, business management, social sciences, economics and media sciences.
“Keeping our initial commitment to diversity, research and technology, SZABIST has ventured into two new programmes – mechantronics engineering and BS biosciences,” SZABIST said in the press release.
Mechatronics engineering is a modern discipline that integrates mechanical, electrical and electronics, control, and software engineering; all integrated through design process.
It relates to the design of systems, devices and products aimed at achieving an optimal balance between basic mechanical structure and its overall control.
More specifically, it refers to a multidisciplinary approach to product and manufacturing system design offering dramatic improvements in performance.
Mechatronics at SZABIST provides a structured hands-on approach to understanding microcomputer and control technology, coupled with engineering design integration applied to products.
This will allow a designer to make decisions independent of external consultants.
For this purpose, the department offers a programme that includes various engineering science courses from the relevant fields in addition to a strong foundation in basic sciences and mathematics.
A large number of elective courses enable the students to develop in specific directions of their choice.
The objective of the programme is to provide a course of study that will enable the student to work effectively in an integrated role of product designer and/or a project manager.
A fundamental aim of the course is to teach the student how to determine research, development and design route for realisation of both product prototypes and production level products, use management skills to Interact effectively with other company functions and personnel, utilise the expertise of staff within the company and liaise effectively with experts outside the company. This enables students to succeed in a wide range of industries after graduation
The BS biosciences programme at SZABIST is a strong response to the need of the day. It will encompass high quality teaching and learning while paving the way for cutting-edge research that will benefit the industry as well.
BS biosciences is a four year programme that provides a sound and broad academic base for a professional and rewarding career in medical fields. It blends theoretical and practical knowledge, critical thinking and real life experience to equip students with marketable skills.
According to the pres release, SZABIST’s academic programmes are designed to meet the ever-changing demands of the globalised market that we have become part of. Its faculty, researchers and professionals along with our students work with a team spirit that engender an academic atmosphere where students are provided with an intellectually enlightening environment to realise their potential to the fullest.
“SZABIST is an institute that believes in imparting education keeping global perspective in mind. Within a short frame of time, it has become one of the leading educational institutions of higher learning,” the institute pointed out.
