Another Hizbut Tahrir activist goes missing

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices to director generals (DG) of the ISI and MI and others in a case against the alleged abduction of Dr Muhammad Waheed. The number of missing activists of Hizbut Tahrir is gradually increasing as five cases seeking recovery of missing activists are already being heard in the IHC.
The court’s single bench of Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman resumed the hearing of a petition filed by Naveed Mukhtar against the kidnapping of his brother Dr Muhammad Waheed from Rahim Yar Khan. Through his lawyer, Mukhtar had contended that he and his brother Dr Waheed were picked up by an agency’s men on August 9. He said that after closing their private clinic he and his brother left for home. However, after covering some distance, they noticed that a vehicle was following them.
Dr Waheed told Mukhtar that the ISI and MI had been threatening to kidnap him. Mukhtar contended that the agency’s men after chasing them for a while, forced them to stop, tied black cloth on his and his brother’s eyes and took them to an unidentified place. Mukhtar further narrated that after keeping him for more than three hours in custody, the agency’s men released him but they did not release his brother.
He contended that his brother was not involved in any illegal activity and demanded his recovery. The chief justice issued notices to respondents for their comments and has fixed the matter for August 15.
