Thunderstorms battered many cities in southern Punjab and badly damaged around 100 houses, farmland and crops on Tuesday. Vehari, Melsi, Karampur, Lodhran, Fazilpur, Khairpur Tamewali, Burewala and the adjacent rural belts were among the most-affected areas where rain continued for over seven hours. Water burst out of a canal near Vehari from three spots, which flooded hundreds of acres of standing crops.
Gushing water damaged and uprooted electric poles and plunged many areas into darkness while people started reciting Azan from mosques to stop the rain. In Burewala, rainwater entered into urban areas including Mujahid Colony, Akhtar Town, Khalid Town, Gulshan Town, Habib Colony and other nearby localities. But the people in Multan were jubilant as rain lashed the city after an unbearable heat wave and brought the mercury down considerably.
n northeastern Punjab, Nullah Dek submerged more than a dozen villages in Sialkot including Chak Loharaan, Nawade, Chahoor and Mahtabpur. According to the Flood Warning Centre, some areas of Shakargarh, Narowal, Sialkot and Gujrat are expected to be affected by the overflowing nullahs. And in Khuzdar district of Balochistan, at least 60 cattle died as the wall of a school collapsed in the Wadh area.
