A stage play titled “Allah Pakistan Lay chall” was held here in connection with celebrations marking the 64th Independence Day. It presented the sacrifices of Muslims of the subcontinent while trying to attain independence, and showcased the bloodshed that took place during partition. The play was a serious attempt at giving viewers an opportunity to conduct a comparative study of the lives of Muslims pre and post partition – only to discover that Muslims were still immersed in struggle, strife and violence. The play went on to show present-day Pakistan, engulfed in crises. The chaos in Karachi was especially highlighted to depict the selfishness of a nation bent upon killing each other. At the end of play, Zameer, the son of the nation, was symbolically shown sleeping. It was requested that he not be disturbed, for if stirred from his slumber, he would destroy everything. Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in collaboration with the Information Ministry organised the play at the PNCA building. Although not great in number, the viewers appreciated the script of the play by Rauf Khalid, the performances of the actors, and the efforts of director Suraj Khan.
