45 trains become defunct

Financial constraints have forced Pakistan Railways to temporary suspend operations of 45 passenger trains including the Quetta Express from Tuesday.
According to the railway administration, Pakistan Railways was experiencing a loss of Rs 3.8 million daily due to decreasing number of passenger and freight traffic.
A railways’ departmental document has revealed that 45 trains including the Quetta Express which run on branch and main lines have been temporarily closed. Other important trains including the Faiz Express, Peshawar Passenger, Lahore-Faisalabad train, Lahore-Sargodha and Lahore-Narowal have also been closed down. The closure of these trains has created more problems for passengers who are already faced with delays of 2-8 hours. Meanwhile, PR administration has sent a Rs 4 billion PC-1 to the finance ministry for bailout package. The ministry on August 5, announced Rs 10 billion as bailout package. Out of that amount Rs 6 billion was to be paid by bank consortium while the remaining amount by the finance ministry.
