LESCO consumers had another hard day as the heavy rain brought the city’s power supply down on Monday.
Consumers attacked the LESCO office in Sabzazar at Sunday late night because of continued outages. LESCO diverted its attention to providing electricity to WASA water disposal teams and ignored the rest of the city. Electricity was shut down in most of the city after rains began in the morning and emained suspended till rain ended in the evening. However, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) claimed that only seven percent grid stations stopped working, while other grid stations were working properly.
Electricity outages were seen in Faisal Town, Township, Garden Town, Model Town, Muslim Town, Walled City and Cantonment areas. The consumers told Pakistan Today that they faced power closures at repeated intervals. “There was no electricity in the morning when I was going to office and when I returned home at 4pm, power was shut again,” said banker Sadeed Ather adding he called the LESCO Township office but was informed that there were technical problems due to rain. Another consumer Zubair Mughal from Garden Town said that electricity was shut every half hour. “Though electricity closures were of 15 to 20 minutes but it was continuous and unbearable,” he added. Consumers also attacked the Sabzazar LESCO office over continuous load shedding. Protestors chanted slogans against LESCO and claimed they were not getting electricity during Sehr and Iftar. Meanwhile LESCO has claimed it provided uninterrupted electricity to 82 Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) disposal pumps, which extracted water from roads. LESCO Chief Executive Saleem Akhter oversaw the operation.
