Leg spinner Danish Kaneria took four for 12 to bowl Habib Bank Limited (HBL) to an easy 19-run victory over Port Qasim Authority (PQA) in the 1st Cool & Cool Twenty20 Night Tournament 2011 at the DHA Sports Club (Moin Khan Academy), Phase VIII, on Sunday.
Kaneria ripped PQA’s batting line-up which collapsed like a house of cards losing all 10 wickets for 69 runs to be bowled out for 109 in 15.3 overs after being 40-0 in two overs while chasing a modest 129-run victory target. Kaneria dismissed a dangerous Shahzeb Hasan who belted two fours and four sixes in a 25-ball 35 and then got the wickets of Shadab Kabir (0), Mohammad Waqas (1) and Tanvir Ahmed (2) to finish with figures of 4-0-12-4 that later earned him the man of the match award. Kaneria was well supported by Test fast bowler Umar Gul (4-1-24-1) and Test spinner Abdul Rehman (3.3-1-13-1). Besides Shahzeb, who was instrumental in punishing Sarmad Anwar for 29 run in his only over, Asim Kamal was the other notable run-getter with a 30 not out that came off 26 balls and included two fours and as many sixes. Earlier, put into bat HBL collected 128-8 in 20 overs with Ahmed Shahzad finishing as the pick of batsmen with a quick-fire 43 that included seven fours and a six from 31 balls and Hasan Raza whose 33-ball 25 included one four. Former captain Younis Khan, who led Pakistan to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 2009, chipped in with a 17 off 22 balls while Pakistan batsman Asad Shafiq suffered a rare failure scoring only two. After a decent first 10 overs, which produced 71 runs, HBL found the going tough as PQA bowlers bowled to a tight line and length restricting the bankers to only 57 off the last 60 deliveries. For PQA, Abdur Rauf bagged 2-30 while Mohammad Sami, Tanvir Ahmed, Tabish Nawab and Azam Hussain shared a wicket each. A total of 13 fours and 11 sixes were hit in the match watched by about 3,000 spectators.
Summarised scores: HBL – 128-8 in 20 overs (Ahmed Shahzad 43, Hasan Raza 25, Younis Khan 17, Umar Gul 12, Salman Qadir 11; Abdur Rauf 2-30), PQA – 109 in 15.3 overs (Shahzeb Hasan 35, Asim Kamal 30 not out; Danish Kaneria 4-12, Sajid Shah 2-19).
