Sindh government signs MoU with Chinese firm for 2,000 CNG buses

The Sindh government and a Chinese firm, Foton Motors (Buses), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday under which the latter would provide 2,000 CNG buses to the province and operate them as well.
The Chinese Bus Mass Transit will ply the buses in Karachi, Hyderabad and rest of the province, using environment-friendly fuel. The company has designed special modern buses for Pakistan considering the cultural and demographical needs of the country.
The MoU was signed by Foton Pak Managing Director Joseph Verghese, Foton President Perry T Blackerby, Sindh Board of Investment (BOI) Secretary Muhammad Younus Dagha, Finance Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch and Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Hussain Syed at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s House on Saturday.
Others present at the occasion included Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, BOI Chairman Saleem Mandviwala, Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas and Transport Secretary Gul Hasan Channa.
On the occasion Joseph Verghese presented details of the agreement and Foton Group Vice President Ye Zhaoyou highlighted the services being rendered by the group. Agha Siraj Durrani welcomed the Chinese company’s investment in Sindh. He added that President Asif Zardari is very keen to further strengthen the relations between the two countries in different areas of interest and expressed hope for more joint ventures between them.
