Decrying the poor quality of the food products available at the state owned utility stores, the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production on Saturday directed the stores to immediately remove all unhealthy food products and conduct proper quality tests before procuring the same. The meeting of the committee was held with Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in the chair. The committee was briefed on the supply and prices of items of daily use during the holy month of Ramadan.
Senator Ilyas Bilour of ANP shocked the committee by presenting samples of adulterated gram flour (basin) used for Ramadan’s essential delicacy pakoras. He said most of the food items being sold at the state Utility Stores were unhealthy and there was no quality check on their procurement process.
