The demand for creation of new provinces, particularly in Punjab, is likely to create problems for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government as the leading socio-politico circles are talking about inclusion of Dera Ismail Khan, commonly known as DI Khan, and Tank districts in the proposed Saraiki province.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi and PPP MPA Samiullah Khan Alizai have threatened to protest if DI Khan and Tank are not made a part of Saraiki province while Sheikh Mukkaram, a well-known figure and the president of Dera Ismail Khan Chamber of Agriculture, organised a meeting to press the demand.
So far, the high ups in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, particularly the leadership of Awami National Party ANP, are silent over the issue. However, the ANP is a staunch supporter of the Saraiki province and it has already asked for adopting constitutional means to achieve the aim.
Faisal Karim Kundi and Samiullah Alizai welcomed the PML-N’s decision of supporting the establishment of the Saraiki province at a press conference on Sunday. They urged the government to include the two southernmost districts of the province in the Saraiki province and warned that they would resort to protest, including strike, if their demand was not met.
On the other hand, Sheikh Mukkaram convened a meeting at the Circuit House which was attended by a large number of leaders and representatives of all political and religious parties. The participants unanimously demanded annexation of DI Khan in the proposed Saraiki province.
In this respect, a 12-member committee was constituted for holding meetings with elected parliamentarians, particularly from the PPP and the ANP. They also decided to visit Peshawar and Islamabad with immediate effect for advocating their demand.
Saraiki is the main language in Dera Ismail Khan and the adjoining areas but majority of the people from this part of the province are Pakhtuns. Though Kundi and his party colleagues from DI Khan are manoeuvring to include Tank in the Saraiki province but the common perception in the district is the opposite.
Moreover, people from Panyala and other rural areas of DI Khan are also showing certain reservations on the matter.
The debate has surfaced when the political circles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are already divided over the issue of Hazara province. The ANP leadership is carefully making attempts for defusing the demand. That is why Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti announced the establishment of Abaseen Division comprising Battagram, Torghar, Kohistan and Shangla districts.

  2. Pakistan should create more provinces. but not on lanuage base.It should be on geographical, economical and administrating base.We all are Pakistani and one nation.
But Compitition is good for development.it will reduce corruption because all the wealth of pakistan will divide in more soubas.not like to day, all the wealth is in one baskit and under few leaders. It also good for administration and tax collection.
Education,Health and electrical and water problems will be easy to handle.we need experts to come farward and give advise to our government and parliment.
