Lahore College of Arts and Science (LACAS) organized an interactive seminar for the O level students and parents titled “A-level & beyond” at Sukh Chain club on Saturday. Hundreds of students and parents attended the seminar. Experts gave an overview of AS and A-Level qualifications by the official representative of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
Faculty members Ayesha Zaigham, Mrs Rehman, Ms Talat Qadir and Salman advised students about the different aspects of A-Levels experience. They said that there were a lot of opportunities to get admissions in the foreign varsities, provided they get proper counselling.
A panel discussion was led by LACAS faculty members and CIE representatives in which faculty members urged students to opt for subjects relevant to their pursuits. Faculty members also warned of selecting ‘soft subjects’ for the sake of getting good grades, stating that it minimises options for university applications since universities are hesitant to admit students who choose easier subjects. They said that most varsities require three or four subjects for admission, therefore there was no need to go for more than four subjects. Rather students should focus should be on getting good grades. Lacas official said that they were the first institute to offer liberal arts subjects and also revived theatre. Talking about the co-curricular activities, she said that LACAS has the best debates coaches.
A presentation by the special counselors from Dignosco was also given on the opportunities of higher education across different regions during the seminar.
Parents and students appreciated the efforts of Lacas, saying that the seminar proved informative. Information about the standardized entrance tests including timelines, admission process requirements, costs and scholarships was also conveyed by the representatives. An informal chat with the alumni from top varsities also took place with students and their parents.
Experts also laid stress on the significance of extra and co-curricular activities, sports, internships, community service and work placements. Lacas Alumni also shared their experiences of A-Levels with the audience and claimed that the A-Level shaped their career in an excellent manner.
A student of Lacas, recently promoted to the A-Levels said that the seminar was good and guided the parents and their children in an efficient manner.
