The retailers in Australia have put massive discounts on essential and special food items, including dates, on the occasion of Ramadan. They have put banners wishing Muslims the advent of the holy month.I was put in a dilemma seeing this. In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, my home country, things are exactly the opposite and everything becomes expensive to suck the blood out of people.
In Pakistan, it has become a norm that instead of providing relief, a sudden increase in the prices of essential items is seen. Lentils, spices, dates, and other food items are sold at high prices.
The shop owners blame wholesalers for the increase in prices while the public blames price control committees for not performing their duties properly. Why is this thing happening in Pakistan only? Shouldn’t prices go down in Ramzan like in other Muslim countries?
