The federal government will back the Sindh government if it wants to call the army to restore peace in Karachi, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Friday. Talking to reporters at the Circuit House, Gilani said there was a difference between the situation in Karachi and Balochistan. “We are facing a law and order situation because of the situation in Afghanistan,” he said. The prime minister said law enforcement agencies had been directed to review the situation in Karachi.
“The provincial governments are responsible for the law and order in their respective provinces,” he said. To a query, he said all stakeholders would be consulted before the formation of new provinces in the country, adding that the manifesto committee was working for the formation of new provinces in the country.
To a question, Gilani said it was wrong to say that the US would freeze the country’s nuclear assets, adding that India was not involved in every trouble in Pakistan.
