Corruption in CDA continues unabated

Corruption in the CDA Water Supply Directorate is continuing unabated despite the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. Local residents in various sector complained that they were being forced to pay Rs 400 illegally instead of Rs 35 for water supply through tankers.
“Previously, I paid them the legitimate fee, so after that they (the water supply personnel) delayed water supply for more than 35 hours when I repeatedly filed order for a water tanker,” said a resident of G-8/1.  Sohail, a shopkeeper in G-9 said he witnessed the reports regarding corruption of the CDA officials but higher authority was taking no step in this connection.
“We experience hardships regarding water and every body knows what the CDA is doing to facilitate the citizens. Only officers and the government are unaware of the issue,” he said.
People maintained that only the Water Supply Directorate drivers were not responsible for the mess in Islamabad, where every man paid high taxes and suffered inflation, but the whole department was corrupt and did not want to stop corruption.  A few days ago, a tanker driver said his senior officers demanded money from him on a weekly basis.
“Well, we fulfill people’s needs and they fulfill our needs and we in turn get the boss happy,” the driver said on condition of anonymity.
