Glowing tributes were paid to late senior police officer Safwat Ghayoor on his first death anniversary in at Peshawar on Thursday. Safwat, Frontier Constabulary (FC) Commandant, was martyred in a suicide attack on August 4, 2010, as he was on his way to home in the provincial capital. He also served as the Capital City Police Chief (CCPO) Peshawar in 2008-10. During the period, the brave police officer succeeded in dislodging the network of militants in the city and adjacent areas.
In connection with first death anniversary of late Safwat Ghayoor, an impressive ceremony was arranged at his ancestral village Pawki in the outskirts of Peshawar. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police chief Fayyaz Toru placed a floral wreath on the grave of the martyred officer. Talking to media, Toru said, “Safwat played a tremendous role in the war on terror.”
In response to a question which linked the terrorism acts to the situation in Afghanistan, he said, “Unless peace does not return in Afghanistan, on one could counter terrorism and militancy in Pakistan.” He, however, claimed that law and order had improved after the killing of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
Replying to another query, Toru said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police had rendered tremendous sacrifices which resulted in making the militants to run. A large number of militants were captured while the remaining ones would soon be arrested, he promised. Toru further said security was on a high alert across the province during Ramadan, adding that Peshawar, Kohat and some southern districts had already been declared as sensitive. It may be mentioned that the federal government conferred Hilal-i-Shujaat on late Safwat Ghayoor while the National Highway Authority has named one of its offices at Khairabad after the martyred officer.
