Man in Afghan police uniform kills NATO soldier

A man in Afghan National Police uniform opened fire and killed a NATO soldier in eastern Afghanistan region on Thursday, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.
“An International Security Assistance Force service member was killed today when an individual wearing an Afghan National Police uniform turned his weapon against the service member in eastern Afghanistan,”said a statement issued by ISAF here.
“ISAF and Afghan officials are assessing the incident and more information will be released as appropriate,”it added.
Such incidents also happened in the past. In similar incident an Afghan in army uniform opened fire and killed a British soldier with ISAF on July 16 in the country’s southern Helmand province.
The statement also confirmed losing another service man in the same region on Thursday.
“In a separate incident, an ISAF service member died following an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan today,” according to the statement.
Troops mostly from United States have been stationed in eastern Afghanistan within the framework of ISAF to curb Taliban-linked insurgency there.
Thursday’s fatalities bring to five the number ISAF casualties since Wednesday morning.
Three NATO soldiers were killed in separate incidents also in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Over 330 NATO soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan since the beginning of this year.
