In order to stabilise fruit prices and keep them within the reach of the common man, 10,000 crates of apples and three trucks of grapes were brought into the markets of capital by the local administration on Wednesday.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC), Amer Ali Ahmed visited the fruit and vegetable market in the city and met the traders’ associations. The DC asked the traders to further increase the supply of fruits and vegetables in order to meet the demand of consumers, which had increased during the month of Ramadan. The DC also expressed hope that with the increased supply of apples and grapes in markets, the prices of these fruits would come down.
The DC further said that the administration was vigilant and would act to curb any attempt made by profiteers. The administration would continue to bring in food commodities to the market to ensure that prices remain low, he said. Ahmed also said that there had been a decrease in the rates of some vegetables, including tomatoes, by the 2nd of Ramadan.
