The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhary reprimanded the Punjab Police inspector general (IG) for re-arresting an accused after he was granted bail on Wednesday.
The IG was called in court on a petition filed by Raheela contending that her spouse Javed Sadiq was re-arrested by Sattokatla Police in the court premises minutes after he was granted bail. The CJ reminded the IG of the history of police obedience to court and criticised the officials concerned on their disregard for the bail orders.
The IG apologised over the incident and informed the court that a committee headed by Deputy IG Ali Amir Malik has been constituted to probe the matter and submit a report. The court adjourned further proceedings till August 5 directing the IG to submit the inquiry report on the next date of hearing. Court extends Sheikh Afzal’s remand: An accountability court on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Haris Steel Mills owner Sheikh Afzal till August 17. The accused had embezzled Rs 33.3 million from the NIB Bank. The court, while extending the remand, directed the National Accountability Bureau authorities to submit a reference by the next date of hearing.
