The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notice to the FIA director general (DG) and interior secretary in a plea of an accused against his possible extradition to America on charges of money laundering and transportation of narcotics. A single IHC bench of Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman resumed hearing in the case filed by Nurab Khan against his possible repatriation to America in the drug cases. Nawabzada Khan Afridi, the counsel for Nurab Khan, contended that his client might be handed over to the US as American authorities had been demanding his repartition.
The counsel apprised the court that that in 2004 the US government through a diplomatic representative in Pakistan had requested for extradition of Nurab. Later on, Pakistani authorities conducted an magisterial inquiry in 2005. The counsel further submitted that Islamabad additional deputy commissioner, the head of the inquiry committee, had issued Nurab’s non-bailable warrant without recording his statement.
He prayed the court for setting aside the directions of the Islamabad ADCG and release the accused on bail. The lawyer also requested to court to direct the FIA DG and interior secretary not to handover his client to the US.
