Around 58.72 percent students passed the Matriculation Exams 2011 of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore, according to the result announced on Tuesday.
An award distribution ceremony in honour of position holders was held at the Alhamra Hall on Tuesday, where Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman was chief guest. Position holders were already announced on Monday but the result was revealed to the public on Tuesday. Around 0.20 million students took part in the exams while 0.120 million were successful. Larabe Farrukh of Kips High School for Girls got the overall first position by securing 1,022 marks out of 1,050 while Saman Habib of LDA Model Girls High School got 1,021 marks and stood second. Taimoor Jaffar Ali of Crescent Model Higher Secondary School and Arfa Tahir of DPS Girls Model Town shared the third position by getting 1,020 marks each.
Rs 20,000, 15,000 and 10,000 were awarded to the position holders while gold, silver and bronze medals were also awarded. The topper was also awarded a Pentium IV computer. Around 13 students were awarded in the ceremony who had secured the top three positions in the science group (boys), science group (girls), humanities group (boys) and humanities group (girls). Heads of institutes of position holders were also awarded gold medals. Proud parents kept on kissing the foreheads of their children while they had tears in their eyes. Mujtaba congratulated the shining students and their parents and said that this is a memorable day for them.

Load shedding:Intense load shedding was the hallmark of the award distribution ceremony of Matriculation position holders on Tuesday, which showed the mismanagement of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore.
Position holders were welcomed in the hall, where air conditioners were not working and during the two-hour long ceremony, everyone, including the guests was seen sweating.
