In compliance with the Supreme Court orders, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday appointed Sohail Ahmad, a grade 22 officer, as the Narcotics Control Division secretary. Ahmed was made an officer on special duty after he notified the transfer of Hussain Asghar, former Gilgit-Baltistan IG, to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to enable him to continue the investigation into the Haj corruption scandal. However, it is yet to be established whether a ticker released the Prime Minister’s House for the electronic media’s consumption was a mockery of the judiciary or simply an error, as it called Ahmed “Mr Justice Sohail Ahmad”.The ticker read: “Mr Justice Sohail Ahmad, currently OSD, has been posted as the secretary, Narcotics Control Division”.
However, a revised ticker rectified the mistake later. Ahmed, the former establishment secretary, was removed from office and made OSD soon after the issuance of the notification by him ordering the transfer of Asghar.
