The Central Moon Sighting Committee met in Karachi on Monday evening and announced the end of the Islamic month of Shabaan.
The committee also received confirmation of the moon having been sighted in Islamabad, Multan and Lahore. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the areas where people began fasting on Monday included Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Charsadda, while there was scattered observance of the first of Ramadan in Buner Swat, Lakki Marwat and DI Khan. More than half of the people in Peshawar also marked the first of Ramadan after an announcement by clerics at Peshawar’s influential Qasim Ali Khan mosque.
