I did it without rote learning or power, says topper

After obtaining 803 marks out of 850 in the exams – a remarkable percentage of 94.47, she said that she intends to pursue the field of medicine.
The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) announced the results on Monday.
According to BSEK Chairman Anzar Hussain Zaidi, 127, 425 candidates had registered for the exams and 126, 556 students appeared in them, out of whom 93,545 passed – a pass percentage of 73.92 percent.
Hira, who studies at the Usman Public School in North Nazimabad, believes that necessary changes in the curriculum on an urgent basis would help students a lot.
“I spend up to five hours studying daily and do not believe in rote learning,” she said.
Putting up with the prolonged hours of load shedding in the city, she had to use torchlight to study during power outages.
Ammara Ahmed, a student of Progressive Public Secondary School in Dhoraji Colony, bagged the second position with 799 marks – a percentage of 94.  She expressed her desire to become a teacher one day. “I am inspired by my teachers. The result which I achieved today shows their efforts,” she said.
 Samar Sajid, a student of Shaheen Public School in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, secured the third position with 796 marks – a percentage of 93.65. “I joined the local coaching centre because it makes my mother comfortable. However, I hardly attend classes at the coaching and spend only two hours studying at home,” she said.
As per the gazette, 13,625 students obtained A-1 grade in the exams, 23,282 acquired A grade, 27,960 achieved B grade and 21, 578 secured C grade. A total of 6,636 candidates passed with D grade, 105 students managed E grade and 359 candidates passed their exams in additional subjects.
At least 29 cases of using unfair means during the exams were reported by the Governor’s Special Vigilance Team, 45 cases were reported by the Overseeing Committee of the BSEK and 47 cases were reported by centre superintendents.
 The results of 11 candidates were cancelled due to submission of bogus documents while the results of 81 students were withheld due to unauthorised change of exam centres.
The BSEK also announced results of the 2011 SSC Part I and II annual examinations for candidates with impaired hearing.
 The BSEK chairman said 102 candidates registered for the exams of Part I and 101 appeared in them. According to the results, 97 students passed all five papers and two candidates passed four papers. One student cleared just one paper. As many as 106 candidates registered for the Part II, out of whom 103 appeared in the exams and only one student failed.
 Muhammad Shayan Javed of the Dewa Academy secured the first position with 786 marks out of 850 and a pass percentage of 90.35. Muhammad Kashan, another student of the Dewa Academy, grabbed the second slot with 762 marks and a percentage of 89.64.
 Hammad Bin Tariq, also of the Dewa Academy, obtained the third position with 750 marks and a percentage of 88.23.
