After Rangers, the Frontier Constabulary (FC) have also been given police powers in Karachi, while the Rangers have been directed to take action in troubled areas, a private television channel reported on Tuesday.
These decisions were taken during a meeting on law and order situation in the Sindh capital held at the CM House. The meeting was jointly chaired by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
A statement issued by the CM House read that Rangers and the police had also been directed to take immediate action against miscreants and this action would continue until these elements were eliminated from different areas.
Participants of the meeting appealed to residents, political and religious parties to play their part in restoring and maintaining peace in Karachi. Inspector General of Police Wajid Ali Durrani told the meeting that the police have so far arrested 91 alleged target killers who have confessed of killing about 161 people.
He said more arrests are also on cards and investigators of hopeful of extracting useful information from them to nab the criminal networks involved in the Karachi carnage. The meeting was told that some criminal elements were working under the patronage of various political parties.
It asked the police to initiate probe against them and get their credentials verified from the concerned political parties. The meeting decided to award five million rupees cash as reward to any person who provided police information about any target killer.
If photographs or video of a target killer provided to the police, the cash award would be Rs10 million. The identity of the informer would be kept secret. Chief Minister Qaim and Rehman Malik urged the law enforcing officers to improve their performance and get Karachi rid of violence and targeted killings.
Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan, Sindh Rangers acting director, additional chief secretary (home) and senior police officers attended the meeting.
We need to address Karachi problem in an extremely serious manner. Everybody needs to sit together and find an effective solution. Peace Conference is the need of the hour. It must be attended by all stake-holders. All political parties who claim to have any political base or interest in Karachi must participate. Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, Altaf Hussain, Asfandyar Wali and all leaders of all political parties need to attend. Their second tier leadership participation will not work. Participation of Asif Zardari is essential because he leads the party in power, Asfandyar Wali must be present because ANP has a big stake and Altaf Hussain should also make it a point to personally attend because he is apparently the leader who has the biggest public following in Karachi. They should fear nothing but fear itself. If any leader cannot dare to visit a city which needs him, then that leader has no right to participate in our politics.
so they hv announced tht the original police department in karachi is hopeless!!!
my life and my families life is in danger i need 2 fc guards on urgent basis can anybody help.
