Bill introduced to maintain master plan of Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2011 was introduced in the National Assembly on Tuesday with a view to ensure and maintain the master plan of Islamabad and punish encroachers, land grabbers and unauthorised occupants of public properties. PML-N lawmaker Parveen Masood Bhatti tabled the bill to further amend the Capital Development Authority Ordinance, 1960 [The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2011] in the House. Statement of objects and reasons said in recent past, there had been a tendency to convert public parks into residential and commercial areas, which was limiting the city’s green areas that were necessary to maintain environmental balance in the capital. Some officers and officials of the CDA were involved in extending undue favours, which was harmful to the beauty of the federal capital. Similarly, there were unchecked encroachments or unauthorised occupations and possessions of state lands that were causing losses of billion of rupees.
