There will be 594 locations in the city where subsidised wheat flour would be available for the poor masses under the Sindh government’s Rs 2 billion Ramazan Package. “Out of these locations, 375 shops have been selected in various areas of the city, while 144 stalls would be set up in Bachat Bazaars and 75 flour mills outlets. People would get a 10kg sack of flour at Rs 210 at these points,” said Karachi Commissioner Mohammad Hussain Syed while presiding over a meeting at his office on Monday. The deputy commissioners concerned can also select the location where the trucks of flour would arrive, they commissioner said. “The assistance of police and Rangers can also be sought,” he added. He instructed the deputy commissioners to ensure the provision of subsidised flour to the public during the holy month. The commissioner also called for deployment of food inspectors, civil society representatives and elected representatives at the flour sale points. “Ramazan package banners should also be displayed to facilitate the masses,” he added. Deputy Commissioner Central Matanat Ali Khan, South Mustafa Kamal Qazi, West Ghanwar Ali Leghari and Malir Qazi Jan Mohammad, EDO E&IP Dr Saifur Rehman, police high-ups, food directors and representatives of the flour mill association were among those present at the meeting.
