The Sindh government has launched the second phase of its peace campaign Amn Ka Safar that would take place in the areas of the city most affected by targeted killings. “The misguided youth must surrender their weapons to the provincial government. If they do so, these young citizens will not be dealt with harshly according to law,” Sindh Information and Archives Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Sunday.
Memon was addressing a press conference held at the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s media cell, where Member Provincial Assembly Nadeem Bhutto was also present. Memon thanked all the religious and political parties as well as the civil society organisations that participated in the peace rally organised on Saturday by the PPP and the provincial government. He said, “The peace drive will continue until peace is completely restored in the city of lights. I appeal to all the parents of the misguided youngsters to cooperate with the provincial government.”
He also said that the Sindh government has approved a subsidy of Rs 2.5 billion for the relief of the people of the province. The provincial government has also set up a complaint cell at the Chief Minister House against illegal hoarding of food commodities, he added. Responding to a question, Memon said, “Nawaz Sharif wants to topple the government in the name of the judiciary.”
He said that Sharif has been trying to be a champion of the independent judiciary, whereas he himself had attacked the superior judiciary during his tenure. “He wants to derail democracy because of his hunger for power,” Memon added.
