A spokesman of the Health Department on Monday said the department was fully aware of the current status of dengue cases in Punjab and preventive measures had been adopted in all the risky districts since July.
The spokesman said the health secretary chaired a number of meetings of all the health executive district officers (EDOs) and medical superintendents of public sector hospitals and issued necessary instructions against the spread of dengue and malaria. He said a number of review meetings had also been held for the purpose. Spray, fogging and larviciding in all districts had already started and reporting, monitoring and surveillance of all the communicable diseases was being done on daily basis by the provincial office, he added. The spokesman said till August, a total of 43 dengue cases were reported, of which 32 occured in Lahore, two in Sheikhupura and one each in Attock, Kasur, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Independent Kashmir, Layyah, Jhang and Bhakkar. “There is no need to panic as the Health Department is monitoring the situation closely and enforcing preventive measures,” concluded the spokesman.
