A year without relief

It has been a whole year since the Airblue plane crash took place in the Margalla Hills area near the country’s capital. During this year, there has not been any significant progress towards identifying the cause of this calamity and even if any such findings have been made, they have not been made public.

A total of 152 passengers were on board when on the 28 July, 2010 the tragic event took place, killing all the people on board. The loss that the families of these passengers suffered from can never be compensated emotionally or psychologically. However, these families should have been given monetary compensation either from the government or the airliner company. No such compensation has been given up till now. Neither have these families been told about the cause of the crash.

This fundamental lack of responsibility not only creates instability amongst the families of the victims but also places the institutions concerned in a negative position where the general public finds it hard to rely on them.

I would request the authorities to make the report of the crash public or at least provide the families of these 152 passengers with monetary relief in order to help them and also to have a better image before the nation.
