Targeted killings claim another 16 in Karachi

Karachi continued to bleed from targeted killings as 16 more people were gunned down in various areas of the city on Saturday, taking the death toll in a week’s violence to 98. Karachi has been wreaked by violence lately, with the use of locally-manufactured hand grenades and Rocket propelled grenades becoming a common occurrence across the city.
On Saturday, terrorists attacked parts of Sher Pao Colony in Landhi, killing 10-year old Niaz and injuring several others. Two activists of MQM (Aamir Khan group) were killed in Landhi by unidentified assailants. Tey were identified as Azeem and Khan Shahab. Police also found a tortured and bullet-riddled body of Umair,25, in a gunny bag in Khurramabad area of Landhi.
A cable operator, Zaheer, was killed in Chashti Nagar area of Orangi Town, while an unidentified man was killed in Safoora Goth. An unidentified body was also discovered in a gunny bag in Dhobi Gath area of Garden police preceincts. Also, an armed clash between two religious groups in Godhra Camp area of New Karachi claimed the life of one man, identified as Asif. He was an activist of the Sunni Tehreek.
Meanwhile, unidentified motorcyclists killed a person in Ranchor Line. He was identified as Abdul Raheem, an official of Darakhshan police station. Two men were killed when assailants sprayed a passenger bus with bullets in Pak Colony. Another two men were killed in Old Sabzi Mandi area, while a man was also gunned down Gulistan-e-Johar. Police and Rangers launched a search operation in Sher Pao Colony but failed to arrest any suspect.
