Disgruntled, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is likely to take action against the weak performance and the corruption of the newly appointed executive district officers (EDOs) elementary and secondary education departments, which may include extension of probation period by another year.
Sardar Hussain Babak, KP minister for elementary and secondary education, in a meeting held in his office at Civil Secretariate in Peshawar, expressed anger and said the government had separated the teaching and the management cadres to enhance performance, whereas the newly appointed EDOs had shown no progress.
Education Secretary Mushtaq Jadoon, Special Secretary Farid Qureshi Additional Secretary Sharafat Rabbani, Director Schools Sarwat Jahan, Director ESRU Riaz Bahar Akhunzada, Additional Directors Rafiq Khattak, Shabir Hussain Shah and others also attended the meeting.
Babak said the officers had slowed the progress of their department through their corruption and mismanagement which would not be tolerated. The minister directed the higher authorities to start monitoring the performance of the EDOs and also keep sending reports to his office.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Education Mushtaq Jadoon assured the minister that he would device a system within two months which would reveal the performance of the officers automatically. It may be mentioned here that EDO Peshawar was made an OSD following allegations of corruption.
