The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), under its community healthcare services, has launched a zakat and donation scheme to continue with its free treatment facilities for needy patients.
“There are thousands of patients presently supported by the university at its different medical centres,” said DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan while addressing a session to launch the project.
According to a press release, he said that the majority of these patients are those suffering from tuberculosis, hepatitis B or C and other liver diseases and cancers.
He said that free-of-charge artificial limbs and prosthesis are also being provided to the disabled patients.
The session was largely attended by students and faculty members of the university.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan shared with them the development projects and community welfare schemes, including flood relief work, undertaken by the university.
He said that DUHS, since its inception, has been offering community healthcare service from its own resources.
“The number of patients, who are genuinely needy, is increasing with each passing day and has compelled university to seek support and cooperation from well-to-do people from different sections of the society,” he added.
