Even though the Amn Ka Safar rally in Clifton on Saturday managed to bring together rival political parties for the sake of peace in Karachi, the residents of the area were displeased by the noise created by the motorcycles of its participants.
Also worrisome for them was the fact that so many political activists, affiliated with parties many believe are involved in the violence in the city, had gathered in their generally peaceful locality.
The residents and shopkeepers of the area termed the rally as a futile exercise to show fake solidarity that has only disturbed their peace.
A resident told Pakistan Today: “I was sleeping at home after returning from my office when the noise created by the political activists woke me up,” he said.
“I tried to sleep again, but the noise of the motorcycles and the slogan-chanting didn’t let me do that. For God’s sake, there is already peace in Clifton and we don’t want peace rallies here.”
A shopkeeper at Gulf Shopping Mall near Teen Talwar said, “We opened our shops after afternoon when pillion riders started gathering near Teen Talwar. We became afraid what about was going to happen. Like us, the customers also returned back home after seeing the gathering of political activists.
