IHC serves another notice to agencies over ‘missing people’

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices on Friday to top officials of spy agencies after a petition was filed alleging that the intelligence agencies had ‘picked up’ another activists of Hizb-ut-Tahrir. A single bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman resumed the hearing of the case filed by Dr Moeed.
The case sought the recovery and release of his father Dr Abdul Qayyum from the custody of intelligence agencies. Dr Moeed’s counsel, Umar Hayat Sindu, contended that his client’s father was picked up by an official of the intelligence agencies from Rahimyar Khan on July 27, 2011.
It is relevant to note here that, DG ISI, DG MI, and SP Islamabad Saddar had already been issued a notice by the IHC last Monday to submit their comments on three separate petitions filed by the relatives of three missing people; Hayan Dawar, Imran Yousufzai and Osama Hanif. These top officials had been directed to submit their replies, through a special messenger, on Friday. However, Deputy Attorney General Tariq Jahangiri told the court that the message could not be conveyed to the respondents. Upon this, the court issued fresh notices to respondents and adjourned the hearing till August 4,2011.
