‘Good news’ for Saraiki people in Ramadan: Awan

Former law minister Senator Babar Awan on Friday hinted at the creation of a Saraiki province, saying that the people of Saraiki areas would be given a “good news” regarding their cherished desires during the holy month of Ramzan.
Addressing a press conference after meeting with various lawyers’ delegations and of bar associations, Awan said the government had always respected the constitutional jurisdictions of all state institutions, including the judiciary and it would further strengthen them.
“Those who want to cause confrontation between the institutions will always be disappointed. The government has the ability to run the institutions besides running the country’s affairs,” he added.
Awan said the backdoor had been closed for conspirators and the people of Pakistan would never allow anyone to “play” with the constitution. To a query, he said in the past, verdicts were given in favour of dictatorships but after the passage of the 18th Amendment, those who favours any unconstitutional step would be accounted for abrogating the constitution. “Those who are wishing for early elections should prepare themselves for the upcoming Senate polls,” he said, adding that the government had amended the Legal Practitioner and Bar Counsel Act and now federal and provincial governments were bound to allocate annual budget for the Pakistan Bar Council, provincial bar councils’ and bar associations. Awan said the government was also making an effective policy to improve the economy of the country. He was of the view that the country’s nuclear assets were in safe hands. He reiterated the PPP-led government’s commitment to the policy of reconciliation, saying that united efforts were needed to overcome challenges confronting the country.
