In the back drop of war on terror, the most drastic impact on our country is due to the lack of unity between political and armed forces. Both sectors have a need of motivation by their desire for the reconciliation and better interpretation of the goals. The media is required to be an active player for harmony in the country, as in the civilised societies it does so.
In the contemporary history of world politics, 9/11 was the day which changed the world dramatically. Though it is characterised as a lapse of their security but while observing the stance of American society, we come to know that the media was developing the public opinion with constructive criticism. They didn’t let their morale down and the same had been by Indian media after Mumbai attacks in 2008.
Pakistan’s sacrifices in war on terror are really appreciable. The economic losses during the past 10 years are around $100 billion, whereas United States has provided only $20 billion aid. More than three thousand Pakistani soldiers laid their lives for the national security but the stance of our mainstream media on recent terrorist attacks, for instance on GHQ, Mehran base and Abbotabad Operation is frustrating for the people. Rather than providing an understanding in a broader perspective, unfortunately media was overly negative towards the armed forces. All we need is unity among everyone. A country can wield its power effectively through the collaboration of military and civil society.
