Following strict directives from Water and Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar to distribution companies for taking mega defaulters by the horns, the Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) has issued a recovery notice to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, demanding a payment of Rs 31 million.
An official source said the issuance of the notice was enough to force other defaulting public departments to immediately clear outstanding dues, or else their electricity supply could be disconnected without intimation. The departments were seeking time to clear their dues, which they said would be cleared after the release of funds for the current fiscal year.
He said IESCO had served notices on the Cabinet Division for the recovery of Rs 14 million, Parliamentarian Lodges for Rs 13 million, the Senate chairman’s office for Rs 36 million, Pak Secretariat for Rs 10 million, Pakistan Public Works Department for Rs 56 million, National Logistic Cell for Rs 6 million, Islamabad Police for Rs 10.5 million, Islamabad chief commissioner for Rs 19 million, National Savings Central Directorate for Rs 2 million and Quaid-e-Azam University for the payment of Rs 1 million.
