The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued a statement on Thursday to mark one year since the Airblue plane crash and called it an “interim report”, but neither did it state the cause or the reason behind the crash nor hold anyone responsible.
The report stated that the plane flew into the Margala Hills and crashed at a distance of 17.77 kilometres from Islamabad. A detailed investigation by an expert team headed by the Safety Investigation Board president was carried out, it said. All aspects, including internal/external sabotage, incapacitation of the aircraft systems, flight fire, bird strike or structural fatigue, human factors, organisational factors and others were adequately analysed in the investigation, said the statement.
The interim report stated that the investigation report had been completed and sent to the federal government. It would be released, said the statement, when comments from companies that manufactured and designed the plane were received. All 152 passengers and crew on board were killed when Airblue Flight 202 crashed into the Margala Hills a year ago.
