No institution will be allowed to cross limits: CJP

Chief Justice of Pakistan justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Thursday that the Supreme Court (SC) would block the way of any institution that transgressed its parameters.
“All the institutions should discharge their obligations by remaining in their ambit in conformity with the laws. SC will block the way of any institution which oversteps its ambit,” the chief justice told a full court reference held here on Thursday on the eve of the retirement of Justice Javed Iqbal, the senior-most judge of the apex court.
Chaudhry said the rule of law and constitution guaranteed the development of any society, Online news agency reported. An impartial judiciary blocked the way of deviation from the constitution and protected the freedom and rights of every member of society, he stated.
He said further that democracy negated the use of unrestrained powers and a democratic system was based on the doctrine of distribution of powers under a constitutional framework, and all the institutions should ensure good governance within a constitutional framework. In order to ensure good governance, the constitution had placed some restrictions on the executive, judiciary and the legislative, he said.
He added that no society could exist without ensuring dignity and freedom of the people and that could be possible only if the rule of law was in place. He said dispensation of justice was a sacred obligation and those who performed the function with honesty and earnestness enjoyed society’s respect.
