‘Amn ka Safar’ message starts spreading

The peace drive launched by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led Sindh government expanded to other political parties on Thursday when the religio-political party of Sunni Tehreek (ST) announced joining the drive.
Extending their support for maintaining city’s peace, ST leaders launched a peace march and visited several offices and residences of leaders from different political parties and groups while holding white flags. The peace march participants, led by ST leader Sarwat Ejaz Qadri, visited ruling PPP’s offices situated at People’s Secretariat and also held a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House.
They also visited the offices of the Ameer Banbhro-led Sindh National Party, Sindh National Front chief Mumtaz Bhutto and leaders of Punjabi-Pakhtun Ittehad. ST chief Qadri announced that the peace march will continue for four days, during which they will pay visits to the offices of other political and religious parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP).
ST central leader Shahid Ghauri said the leaders will also visit offices of Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP), PPP-Shaheed Bhutto and nationalist parties. The party leaders will also meet representatives from businessmen community, traders, lawyers, students and non-governmental organisations and will extend the message of peace while handing over white flags.
Speaking at a press conference, Ghauri said his party welcomes the appeal for peace made by the PPP, MQM and the Sindh government. “The ST itself is a major victim of terrorism in the city and wants to gather all political forces on a single platform to restore peace in Karachi.” Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional leader and Adviser to Chief Minister on Information Technology Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said that his party also supports the peace drive initiated by the provincial government and will participate in it.
He expressed these views during his meeting with Sindh Auqaf Minister Dr Rafiq Banbhan at his office.
