PMA equity chapter falls prey to internal conflicts

Cracks developed within the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) equity chapter as its President Dr Sabiha Mehmood alleged that the vice president Dr Abdul Rauf was involved in “conspiracies” to become the president himself.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Dr Sabiha said she had represented doctors on every forum, whether it was the young doctors’ strike on pay raise or the regularisation of doctors. However, Dr Rauf started a campaign against her to “take over” as the president ever since the equity chapter became pivotal in “pursuing” the case of regularisation of around 1800 doctors. She said her name should be mentioned everywhere as the MTA equity chapter president. To a question, she said she had no idea why Rauf had started a campaign against her and other senior founding members. Previously, the PMA Punjab and equity chapters had levelled allegations on each other over differences of opinion on the regularisation of doctors in Punjab. The office bearers of the equity chapter had always pointed fingers at the “unelected” PMA office bearers but the current move “laid bare” the differences within the equity chapter over taking the driving seat.
