COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) is holding an exhibition displaying the works of Professor Nargis Khalid. The exhibition, titled ‘Safar’, consists of works which depict natural beauty. CIIT Rector Dr SM Junaid Zaidi wished to provide a platform where the arts faculty at CIIT as well as other budding/senior artists could display their works, hence this exhibition. Zaidi plans to continue exhibiting the works of national and international artists at CIIT. Professor Khalid is a Foreign Faculty Professor from Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the department of Architecture and Design at CIIT.
Khalid completed her Masters Degree in Art Education from Rhode Island School of Design in the U.S.A is a renowned artist whose work has been exhibited and acclaimed internationally in countries such as Germany, France, Mexico, and Netherlands. She is also one of the founding members of the Dubai International Art Center. Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture and Design at CIIT and a renowned artist, Farrah Adnan is curating this exhibition. Adnan said that there is strong use of textures and colors in Khalid’s works and a kind of ‘magnetism’ emanates from her compositions.
While talking about her works, Khalid said that myths and events in our lives form the perfect subject matter for art, “I am highly attuned to the sights, sounds and fragrances offered by nature and I am fascinated by colors; as a child I used to be mesmerized by the colors which exploded in the sky at sunrise and sunset. Painting to me is like a journey into life.” she said. She went on to add, “Surrounded by violence and deceit I withdraw into the realm of colors to find salvation. I invite my viewers to come and share the magic which I experience as I celebrate life.” The exhibition will be inaugurated by Bahrain’s ambassador to Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ebrahim Mohamed Abdulqader. The exhibition, held at the CIIT library, Park Road, Chak Shehzad, will continue until 15 August.
