Referring to remarks and statements of certain political leaders, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, without mentioning any name, on Thursday said certain elements were bent upon creating problems before the Senate elections.
Elaborating his point, he said, “Some of the rivals are making attempts to block the PPP from getting majority in Senate.” He, however, said the people were well aware of their intentions and they would not allow disgruntled elements to sabotage the existing democratic setup in the country.
He expressed these views while addressing a selected gathering at Khushal Garh in Kohat where he laid foundation stone of the Khushal Garh Bridge, which was damaged in the July 2010 floods.
Praising the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their courageous and bold role in the fight against terror, Gillani Thursday said the citizens of the province remained on the frontline in the war and the whole nation was moving towards a victory in the struggle.
The bridge is historic nature as it was belt during British rule over a century ago and was used to establish control over the region.
The new bridge on Indus River will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 890 million within a period of around two years. After construction of the bridge, the heavy vehicles, particularly those carrying goods, would run directly between Kohat and the twin cities of Rawalpindi-Islamabad.
The prime minister in his address expressed satisfaction over return of normalcy and eradication of terrorism and militancy in certain parts of the province and the adjacent tribal belt. He appreciated the people and the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their sincere support to security forces in the ongoing military operation against the militants. Without going into further details, Gilani made it clear that they would not bow before those who at the behest of someone else desired political instability. “PPP didn’t come into power through backdoors and its leadership has been mandated by the masses for governing the country,” adding that the PPP government would complete its tenure.
The premier admitted that the outages had become a serious issue but said the government was making all-out efforts to overcome the challenge. “In this respect, efforts are underway on a plan to meet the power deficiency.”
He announced establishment of hydro power plants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which, according to him, could help in addressing electricity needs of the people. The government had permitted provinces to build their own power houses to meet the shortfall, Gilani said. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masud Kausar also addressed the function.
