60 blind murders blow the lid off police’s performance

Over 60 people were murdered in the limits of the capital city’s different police stations during the current year, but the police failed to trace the killers. “The majority of the cases reported to the city police stations are blind murders,” a police source said. According to official police statistics, during the current year 15 cases of murder were reported to Ternol Police Station, nine to Shehzad Town Police Station, seven people were murdered in the limits of Koral Police Station, six in the limits of Margalla Police Station and five others in the Industrial Area Police Station limits. Similarly, three persons each were murdered in the limits of Golra and Sabzi Mandi police stations, two each in the limits of Aabapara, Secretariat and Shalimar police stations and three in the limits of Nilore Police Station. In most of the cases, the police had not so far started proper investigation, he revealed. One of these cases was the murder of federal minister for minorities Shahbaz Bhatti who was shot dead by unknown gunmen on March 2 in Sector I-8. On February 11, a Chinese female doctor, Dr Jiya, 48, was killed at her residence-cum-clinic at Rose Plaza in Markaz I-8. Similarly, senior director, Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education, Dr Arshad Owais Qazion, was brutally murdered at his official residence in Sector G-8/4 on February 8 in the limits of Margalla Police Station.
