The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has set up a National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) (Flood Monitoring Centre) to collect round-the-clock information and avoid humanitarian losses during this monsoon.
“From July first onwards, the NEOC has been made functional to monitor the latest flood situation round-the-clock,” an official of NDMA told APP on Wednesday. He said that the authority issues one-page report daily indicating latest rainfall situation, inflows in various rivers and coordinate with provincial authorities, if the need arises. Authority had worked out a contingency plan to tackle any new flood emergency. “Two plans for floods have been worked out, including for the worst scenario under which a maximum of six million people could be affected and a likely scenario under which 2.8 million people could be probable victims,” he said. “The arrangements have been put in place to evacuate at least 10 percent victims of floods”, he added.
