  1. The bloodshed in Karachi has claimed the lives of six more people. It seems that the power war between MQM-Haqiqi and MQM is intensifying day by day. The unabated violence in Karachi reflect that tension still remains high on the ground and the people belonging to these parties are at daggers drawn. The leaders of MQM condemn the violence, give calls for peace, demand to have inquiry commissions for investigation of the killings, pledge to create a conducive environment to restore peace in the city, but do not do anything practically. At an instant of conflict in views, different areas of the city are turned into battlefields and the violence is used as a manifestation of power, as a means to create hegemony over other groups. If MQM is really serious to resolve this issue, it should stop patronizing criminal elements in their ranks. There are reports that after Friday’s bloody clash between the heavily armed men of MQM Haqiqi and the MQM in Malir and Landhi, the police along with the Rangers have conducted raids in these areas and rounded up over 150 people and recovered weapons from them. If MQM is serious in restoration of law and order situation in Karachi, it should join support Government measures to nab killers.

    • Karachi is in the grip of bloody violence. On this violence MQM thrives. You would have noticed how the situation took an ugly turn in the aftermath of stupid remarks of Zulfiqar Mirza and the disturbances were instantly put to an end from one statement of Supremo Altaf who is sitting here in London as a British citizen and enjoying British hospitality. I am not sure why Altaf Hussain has been allowed to continue his activities resulting in blood shed thousands of miles away from London. The British government can't be that naive that MQM thugs in Karachi armed with most sophisticated weapons which the security agencies couldn't even dream off.

Altaf Hussain is pursuing duplicitous policy of preaching and begging for peace in televised speech and at the same time unleashing his thugs to continue inflicting pain on the citizens of Karachi. His policies obviously draw a similar bloody response from his opponents. The vicious cycle of violence continues.

MQM needs to show prudence rather than opportunism. The blackmailing and intimidation will no longer work.
