India repatriated 91 Pakistani prisoners including 87 fishermen at the Wagah Border on Tuesday. The development coincided with crucial talks between the foreign ministers of the two countries being held in New Delhi tomorrow. All the prisoners crossed the international border on the basis of ‘Emergency Travel Certificate’ issued by the Pakistan High Commission. Out of 91 prisoners 87 were said to be fishermen while four were civilians.
Pakistan Rangers, however, denied entry to one of the freed men, citing his ‘incomplete’ documents. Those 87 fishermen, arrested for illegally entering India’s territorial waters, were released from Gujarat’s Jamnagar jail, one was freed from a Haryana prison and two from Amritsar central jail. Another prisoner Mohammad Raheel, who was in Sangrur jail in Indian Punjab, was arrested from Jammu and Kashmir for his suspected involvement in ‘terrorist activities.
