Police to interview car thief Hassan

Lahore Police on Monday constituted a five member team headed by ASP Gulberg to interview inter-provincial car lifter Hassan at Jamrood Jail in Khyber Agency.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigations Abdul Razzaq Cheema told Pakistan Today that they needed Hassan, who was detained in Jamrood Jail, for investigation purposes. He said the anti-vehicle lifting squad of Lahore Police arrested Hassan from Mardan on July 22, 2009 and sent him to Camp Jail on Judicial Remand. Hassan was later brought to the hospital for medical aid from where he managed to escape from the custody of guards of the Prison Department, he maintained.
He claimed Hassan was declared an offender in 2010 and since then was wanted to Lahore Police in different cases of car lifting. “Out of the 32 cases, only four are registered against him in four different police stations of Lahore as he had confessed the remaining,” he said.
He said a special team under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Gulberg Police Fazal Hamid was constituted, adding that the team will visit Jamrood Jail and will interview Hassan. He said they will later write to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, requesting them Hassan’s custody for interrogation.
Addressing media, DIG Investigation Ali Amir Malik said Hassan will be thoroughly investigated and if names of police officials or other government employees were revealed, stern action will be taken against them.
According to official record, Hassan used to sell lifted cars in tribal areas at good price. He generally introduced himself as a Major of the Pakistan Army if he was stopped by police pickets for checking.
Moreover, the aforesaid car lifter was resident of Lalazar Scheme located in Cantonment Area of Rawalpindi.
He is 32 years of age and only a matriculate.
