Four villagers and their lawyer were gunned down in Layyah on Tuesday when they were returning after a court hearing. Reports said Ch Zulfiquar, Ch Abid, Ch Tariq and a witness Rana Ikram along with their lawyer and senior member of Wazirabad Bar Council Advocate, Sarwar Gujjar, were attacked by men of rival group.
It was learnt that six people from Ch Zulfiquar and Sabir Paroya groups had already been killed in the 15-year-old enmity. Sources privy to the matter told this scribe that both groups had reached a settlement that bound Ch Zulfiquar and his relatives to record a ‘compromising’ statement in the Sessions Court Layyah that had warded death sentence to three men of Sabir Paroya group.
But soon after the Ch Zulfiquar and his relatives left the court after doing their bit of the deal, their car was stopped by armed men who sprayed the occupants of the vehicle with gunfire, killing all of them on the spot. The assailants later fled from the scene of the crime.
Wazirabad Bar remained closed in mourning after the killing of Advocate, Sarwar Gujjar in the incident. An atmosphere of fear has prevailed in the Kot Paroya after the killings in Layyah.
Two brides found dead: Meanwhile, two brides were found strangled in Gujranwala. Aroop Police said newly married Zafar Ali allegedly strangled his wife Asma over a minor dispute and tried to explain the death as a result of suicide. Police lodged a murder case against Zafar after he had disappeared from his house.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old Nazish was found dead and hanging in her bedroom. The incident took place in Baghbanpura Police precincts. Her husband Imran told the police that she had committed suicide. Police moved the body to DHQ hospital for an autopsy and started investigation.
